Privacy Policy

The introduction of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a positive change towards giving you more control over how your data is used and how you are contacted. In line with this, we have changed our Privacy Policy.

This policy states our internal MEA privacy practices reflecting our commitment to protect the personal data of our customers while being exchanged or processed through our website, mobile application, or any other MEA communication channel.

This statement also highlights WHAT type of personal data we may collect, WHY we use it, WHO we may share it with, HOW we handle it, and WHEN we may dispose it off.

This Privacy Policy may be subject to change from time to time. We will post any changes on MEA websites and mobile platform, so please check regularly for the most recent version of our Privacy Policy.

Why & How we use your Personal Information

We only collect from you the personal information that is necessary to carry out our contractual obligations towards you, in accordance with the legal requirements. The failure to provide us with the mandatory personal information may result in MEA being unable to provide you the requested products and services.

MEA uses the personal information it collects from you in the following ways:
  • To fulfil our agreement with you including processing your booking, sending you your itinerary or other details relating to your booking, or contacting you if there is a problem with your reservation & booking;
  • To facilitate your enrolment in the Cedar Miles Program, if any;
  • For our own marketing purposes, such as sending you updates on our latest offers and promotions. When you provide personal information online, you may indicate that you do not want to receive direct marketing materials from MEA;
  • To analyze how our users access, navigate our services and use MEA platforms;
  • To process your payment and/or refund;
  • For customer support, including resolving and answering any queries which you may send to us by email or other forms of communication;
  • To improve our products and services;
  • To personalize your travel experience or provide services tailored to your requirements;
  • To meet compliance obligations corporate systems or audit purposes, including the prevention of fraud for online payments and use of loyalty schemes;
  • For legal purposes, such as to respond to a valid legal requirements or regulatory order, judicial decision and/or EU regulations and applicable EU directives.

And for all other purposes necessary for the provision of travel and other supplementary services related to your booking.

Legal basis for holding and processing personal information

MEA will only process your personal information where we have a legal basis to do so and at all times in compliance with applicable data protection laws. Set out below are the legitimate reasons for which MEA will collect and use your information:
  • We need to use your information so that we can process your booking, fulfil your travel arrangements and otherwise perform the contract we have with you.
  • It is in MEA’ legitimate interests as an airline to use your personal information to operate and improve our business as an airline and travel provider.
  • MEA needs to use your personal information to comply with a legal obligation.
  • To protect the vital interests of you or another person.
  • You have consented to MEA using your information for a particular purpose.

Legitimate Interest - As a civil commercial air carrier, we are required, under law, to collect and process personal information for the purpose of security, safety, passenger booking, record keeping, and provide the passenger travel related information to the government under applicable laws for security and prevention of unlawful activities.

What type of Personal Information we collect

When you use the MEA website, mobile site or applications, we may collect various personal information of you. The type of personal information we collect about you depends on your interaction with us, and may include, but not limited to, the following:
  • Name;
  • Gender;
  • Age;
  • Date of Birth;
  • Passport Details;
  • Professional ID
  • Images
  • Contact Details such as address, telephone number and email address;
  • Nationality or list of nationalities;
  • Frequent Flyer Program/Cedar Miles Membership Number;
  • Payment details (such as credit/debit card number ,expiry date, whether is valid for use outside the issuance state) provided regarding the online purchase of our products and services subject to Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (“PCI DSS”) Policy;
  • Details related to your flights and other travel details, including your preferences and special requests with respect to your travel on our flights;
  • Your dietary requests and health issues or medical needs which you voluntary provide to us;
  • Tracking statistical information collected as you navigate through our sites such as IP address, browser type, operating system and pages accessed. This is stored purely for analytical purposes, and to provide you with a better service and is entirely anonymous;
  • And such other additional information that will be required in relation with herein declared purpose and use of information.

We may also collect information automatically through your use of our websites and mobile application (through cookies, beacons or other tracking technologies), including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Your pinpointed physical location information from technologies like GPS, Wi-Fi, or cell tower proximity (geo-location tracking);
  • Your domain name;
  • Device ID or alternative ID where required by the platform provider;
  • Electronic data concerning operating systems and computing devices/browsers, including types;
  • Features you use and links you click;
  • Amount of time (session time) spent using the platform(s)
  • Installs and uninstalls of mobile application(s)

MEA cannot identify the age of the users who use and access our websites and mobile application.

If the Personal Information was provided by a minor or one who is not legally capable of entering into contractual transactions without parental or guardian consent, the parent or guardian shall be responsible in giving the consent required under this Data Privacy Policy and in correcting any information given or in informing us that the information should be disregarded or deleted.

Who we may share your Personal Information with

To facilitate your travel arrangements, we may need to share your personal information with:
  • Our entities and/or affiliates companies i.e. MEAG (Middle East Airlines Ground Handling S.A.L) to fulfill our agreement with you;
  • Law enforcement, Public and Judicial Authorities, Local & International governmental agencies, immigration, Lebanese and International customs and/or regulatory authorities whom we are obliged to share information with, as required or permitted by law;
  • Partner airlines where you are travelling on an itinerary which involves a codeshare;
  • SkyTeam Management and SkyTeam Alliance members when you are travelling on an itinerary which involves member(s) of the alliance;
  • Frequent flyer and other reward and partner programs with whom you have asked us to share your details;
  • Banks and payment providers, to process and authorize payments;
  • Service providers who assist us to provide our services, including local agents who manage and support customer needs at airports;
  • Third parties to whom we transfer or may transfer our rights and duties under our agreement with you;
  • Our staff and agents to do any of the listed above on our behalf, anytime.

How we handle your Personal Information

MEA is committed to ensure the confidentiality and security of personal information at all times.

MEA has invested heavily on technology and security safeguards to protect your personal information from loss, improper use, unauthorized access, loss, disclosure or modifications.

MEA has established proper organizational, technical and physical security measures to protect personal information that customers provide.

MEA uses a secure communication channel (HTTPS) to encrypt all information exchanged over its web site.

Your Consent

By using MEA websites and mobile application, you are fully accepting the principles set out in this Privacy Policy. You can always update or correct your personal profile, or change your preferences for the way in which you would like us to communicate with you, including how you receive news updates from us, or details of our latest offers.

Your Access Rights

We will handle this request in a reasonable time and we may charge small fees for processing this request, depending on the information requested, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
